  1. - Nuclear power plant operator requiring just "some basic training pertaining to the field od of work" is a quite scary thought,
    - Computer Specialist you got it all wrong with no certifications you'll get nowhere,
    - Police Officer... since when that's an highly paid job? What's your term of comparison? Minimum wage?
-Commercial Pilot you are quite off as well training costs are high and positions are few and not that highly paid this along police officer and the nuclear plat operator are quite dangerous jobs. Piloting a commercial aircraft requires a sizable up-front investment of funds and effort... while an Ivy league degree is not necessary, it's sure not the walk in the park you paint it to be.
    - Fashion designer requires lots of knowledge of production techniques, materials, and tons of experience and before investors will sink their money into producing a Fashion Designer line, he/she would need to be already outrageously famous... high paid job with no need of a degree? Perhaps... but how many you know who are in the field of fashion and are highly paid?

I'll stop here because many other statements made here are superficial at best and deserve no further waste of time.

I am not in disagreement with the fact that to land a high paid job may not necessarily require a university degree, but the argument you are trying to make here is completely moot and based on inaccurate suppositions, to say the least and avoiding colored expressions.

Please stop fueling false hopes in the mind of those readers who may come across your post and actually take it seriously... it's just unethical and deplorable to do so whether in posting this article you had an agenda or not.

  2. I think the idea is there are other avenues than college to get into a highly paid position.

Many of the positions listed will high strictly on having a strong military background. For example my good friend is a power plant operator. (He calls himself Homer Simpson) his only experiance after getting his GED was years in the Army as a cook. Police and Boeing also prefer to hire people with any military background.

Knowing 'someone' is also a huge factor. If you know a pilot you can ride along with them and getting the training needed without a lot of out of pocket expense. I imagine designer and computers are the same.

I think the idea is 4+ years & $50k doesnt have to be spent at a college. I do believe it still has to be spent one way or another.
